About KARRA
Our name says it all. Karra comes from the Greek word "Chara," meaning joy, because we believe working with attorneys shouldn't feel like a necessary evil. We're here to bring some joy back into the legal world, both for our clients and the people who work alongside us.
Here's the thing: we weren't built by career law firm partners who've always done it this way. We're entrepreneurs (and lawyers) who looked at our industry and thought: there has to be a better way.
Our firm is powered by modern systems and smart automation, letting us focus on high-leverage work. We believe the future of legal lies in combining human judgment with smart technology. We use AI to amplify our efforts and streamline workflows, while preserving the nuance and care that great lawyering demands.
We've cut out the bloat, the politics, and the old-school mentality. What's left is refreshingly simple: great work with great clients.
Position Overview
Karra Law is seeking an experienced Of Counsel, Intellectual Property attorney to support the firm's clients on IP matters as needed.
This is a flexible, high-trust role for an attorney who wants to maintain their own practice while plugging into a growing modern law firm with strong client relationships, practical clients, and a generous revenue-sharing structure.
The initial focus will be on trademarks, brand clearance, trademark prosecution, copyright, IP ownership, licensing, founder and startup IP issues, and general IP strategy. Patent filing and prosecution experience is a bonus, particularly for clients who need help evaluating, preparing, or coordinating patent protection. Patent experience is not required for the role.
The attorney will maintain a Karra email address, be integrated into the firm's client service model, and work directly with Karra clients where appropriate. For the right fit, there may also be an opportunity to expand into a deeper or full-time role over time, but the current need is flexible and of counsel in nature.
This role is especially well suited for an experienced IP attorney who wants a flexible, ongoing of counsel relationship with a modern business law firm. You may already have an independent, solo, boutique, or fractional practice and be looking to supplement that practice with high-quality client work. You may also be coming from a firm, in-house role, or other senior legal background and looking for a more flexible way to work with practical, business-minded clients.
What You'll Do
Advise clients on trademark clearance, filing strategy, prosecution, maintenance, and brand protection.
Prepare and file trademark applications and respond to USPTO office actions.
Support clients on copyright, licensing, content ownership, and brand/IP enforcement issues.
Advise founders, startups, creators, agencies, technology companies, consumer brands, and growing businesses on practical IP strategy.
Review and advise on IP ownership, assignment, work-made-for-hire, contractor, employee, founder, and vendor issues.
Draft and negotiate IP-related provisions in commercial agreements, including licenses, services agreements, SaaS agreements, contractor agreements, agency agreements, collaboration agreements, settlement agreements, and coexistence agreements.
Support Karra's outside general counsel clients on IP questions that arise in the ordinary course of business.
Assist with IP diligence and cleanup in connection with financings, acquisitions, founder transitions, restructurings, and other corporate matters.
Coordinate patent-related matters where appropriate, including patent filing strategy, patentability review, provisional applications, utility applications, and referrals to patent specialists when needed.
Work directly with clients in a practical, clear, and founder-friendly manner.
Help build Karra's IP templates, playbooks, workflows, and service offerings over time.
